Svenskt Tenn
Svenskt Tenn (‘Swedish Pewter’) is a Swedish interior design company, founded in 1924 in Stockholm by Estrid Ericson, an art teacher and pewter artist from Hjo, Sweden.
Following on from Luke's 2019 collaboration with Svenskt Tenn, the artist and designer was invited to collaborate once again with the company, this time on their Christmas 2022 collection of decorations and table accessories.
For inspiration, Luke took the fabric design Aristidia as his starting point, which was designed by Josef Frank in the late 1920s for Svenskt Tenn. The design contains several elements of the sea in the form of seaweed and starfish, and was named after the Greek writer Aristides. Luke decided to look at Baroque and Rococo furniture and architecture for further inspiration, which can be seen in his ornamental and theatrical interpretation of marine elements.
Along with brass and painted glass Christmas tree decorations, Luke created brass table accessories including a trivet and napkin rings, as well as a geometric fabric design, which Svenskt Tenn produced as cushions, placemats and birch veneer trays.
